Fans, Families, and Race Car Drivers Pedal
to Raise $25,000
in 5th Tour de Road America - Bike Ride to Fight Cancer
Elkhart Lake, WI – Over 300 race fans, families, and cancer
survivors joined race car drivers and their crews from the American
Le Mans Series and other racing series for the 5th Tour de Road
America – Bike Ride to Fight Cancer presented by Delta Dental
yesterday evening at Elkhart Lake’s Road America. The event
is a fundraiser for three cancer charities – the Lance Armstrong
Foundation, the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and the Vince Lombardi
Cancer Clinic.
The weather on Friday evening was ideal for a bike ride around
the 4.0 mile, 14 turn race track. Temperatures in the low 70s,
low humidity, light winds and a beautiful sunset made for a great
ride on the picturesque race track set in the hills and moraines
of eastern Wisconsin.
Great weather always helps, but event organizers credit a team
effort among participants, racing series and teams, fans, and
track officials for the event’s success.
“It’s a lot of work, but it always comes together
really well,” said volunteer Co-Director George Siegle,
of East Lansing, MI. “For most of us, we’re not doctors
or cancer researchers, and so we can’t directly heal or
find cures for cancer. But coming together like this, to support
organizations that do that kind or work and help people survive
cancer -- that we can do!”
Co-Director Brett Edgerle of Kohler, WI said, “As of last
night, we estimate we’ve raised about $20,000, and Saturday’s
silent auction will put the total closer to $25,000 – maybe
more.” The event’s principal beneficiary, the Lance
Armstrong Foundation, administers cancer survivorship programs
nationally. But the event also has a local connection, funding
Wisconsin child for a week at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for
seriously ill children, and by also sharing its proceeds with
the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Sheboygan, WI.
Although not a race, this year’s Tour de Road America featured
a challenge from the Corvette Racing team of the American Le Mans
Series. Team manager Doug Fehan and driver Oliver Gavin challenged
each other to not only see who could raise the most money, but
also who would be the first around the track. Doug emerged victorious
in the fundraiser, with Oliver winning the on-track challenge.
The entire race paddock came out to support the ride, with drivers
and crew from many of the racing series participating in the bike
ride. Emanuele Pirro, of Rome, Italy and driver of the Audi R10
in the American Le Mans Series, was again eager to trade his four
wheels for two to help in the fight against cancer, “I have
participated in this special ride already in previous years and
did not hesitate a second when I was asked whether I would participate
again this year.” Continued Pirro, “Many families
still suffer from the consequences of cancer. With the ride we
are setting a sign and make a small contribution to fight cancer.”
Although the ride is complete, organizers will continue fundraising
Saturday with a silent auction of auto racing memorabilia, cycling
gear, and items donated by local businesses. Participants and
those visiting the ride headquarters also receive oral cancer
awareness information from Delta Dental.

Tour de Road America to Take to the Track
Friday Evening in Elkhart Lake
Fans and Families to Join Race Car Drivers in Bike Ride to Fight
Cancer
Elkhart Lake, WI – The Tour de Road America – Bike
Ride to Fight Cancer presented by Delta Dental returns to Elkhart
Lake’s Road America 4.0-mile, 14-turn auto racing circuit
for the 5th time next Friday, August 8 at about 7:00 P.M. The
event coincides with the Road Race Showcase weekend of auto races
at the track.
“The ride benefits three cancer charities,” explained
Kohler, Wisconsin’s Brett Edgerle, Vice President of the
Tour de Road America Foundation, “the Lance Armstrong Foundation,
the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer
Clinic in Sheboygan. Our goal is to raise $30,000 for the fight
against cancer, and fund a week’s stay at the Hole in the
Wall Gang Camp for a terminally ill Wisconsin child.”
After auto racing is complete on Friday, race fans, local cyclists,
cancer survivors and families will join professional drivers and
their race teams on track by making a contribution to the LAF.
Participants can ride one lap or as many as they can before the
sun sets. All kinds of bikes are welcome and the ride is open
to all ability levels, young and old. Many drivers from the top-tier
American Le Mans Series will join the ride, including Oliver Gavin,
Ben Devlin, Emanuele Pirro, Jonny Cocker, and Paul Drayson.
The Tour de Road America also passed an important milestone this
week, surpassing $15,000 raised this year and $100,000 total for
the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF). This puts it among the top
events held for the LAF, and is even more remarkable because the
ride is entirely organized by unpaid volunteers.
In addition to the ride, the event also features a silent auction
of auto racing memorabilia, cycling gear, and items donated by
local businesses on Friday and Saturday. More information and
online registration is available at www.pelotonride.org, www.roadamerica.com,
or at the track at the Tour de Road America booth on Friday. Organizers
expect 300 to 400 cyclists will take part in the ride.

Tour de Road America Bicycle Ride Will
Feature Fehan vs. Gavin to
Benefit Lance Armstrong Foundation
Fans Can Back Their Favorite with Pledges
to "Bike Ride to Fight Cancer"
ELKHART LAKE, Wis., July 22, 2008 – It will be the USA
vs. England, experience and treachery vs. youth and enthusiasm,
and management vs. labor when Corvette Racing program manager
Doug Fehan takes on Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin in a winner-take-all
bicycle race at the Tour de Road America on Friday, August 8 at
6:45 P.M.
The Corvette Challenge match race will pit Fehan, 60, from Birmingham,
Mich., against Gavin, 35, of Yardley Hastings, England. They'll
race one lap around the punishing 4.048-mile, 14-turn Road America
course in the Tour de Road America Bike Ride to Fight Cancer to
establish bragging rights in Chevrolet's championship-winning
road racing team. The bicycle grudge race is a prelude to the
four-hour American Le Mans Series Generac 500 at Road America
on August 9.
"Fitness plays an important role throughout the Corvette
Racing team," said Fehan, who will compete in the Michigan
Senior Olympics. "As program manager, I try to lead by example
– and it's clear that some team members need a little work.
Finishing the London Marathon was certainly a glamorous achievement
for Oliver, but a bike race at Road America will separate the
men from the boys. Remember, the British had the prettiest uniforms,
but we won the war!"
"I'm younger, fitter, stronger – and smarter,"
countered Gavin, a three-time ALMS champion. "Despite his
advanced age, I'm sure that Doug will push himself hard because
he wants to win as badly as I do. Knowing him as I do, I'm confident
that it won't be a clean fight, but I've got some tricks up my
sleeve as well. I've done marathons and triathlons, but the bicycle
race with Doug will certainly be the greatest challenge yet. I'm
not sure if it's a good career move to beat the boss, but I'm
going for it!"
Fans can show their support for either Fehan or Gavin by pledging
donations to the Lance Armstrong Foundation online at www.pelotonride.org/corvettechallenge.html.
Corvette Racing fans can also pledge donations in person at the
Corvette Corral or by mail with a form downloaded from www.pelotonride.org/CorvetteChallengeForm.pdf.
"Show me the money!" declared Fehan. "The ALMS
has a Green Challenge for the environment, but we've got our own
Green Challenge for Corvette Racing fans, and it's all about American
greenback dollars for the fight against cancer. If they want to
back a winner, they'll pledge for me, but even if they choose
to support Gavin, at least their donation will go to a good cause."
Gavin and Fehan will be joined on the track by their fellow drivers
and team members, race fans, families, local cyclists, and cancer
survivors. The ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and all
kinds of bikes. Proceeds of the fundraiser support the cancer
survivorship, advocacy, education, and research programs of the
Lance Armstrong Foundation, the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang Camp, and
the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic.
Corvette Racing’s next event is the Generac 500 at Road
America, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. CDT on Saturday, Aug. 9.
SPEED will televise the race tape-delayed on Sunday, Aug. 10,
at 2 p.m. EDT.
General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world’s largest automaker,
has been the annual global industry sales leader for 77 years.

its cars and trucks in 35 countries. In 2007, nearly 9.37 million

CYCLISTS AND RACERS GET READY FOR
TOUR DE ROAD AMERICA - BIKE RIDE TO FIGHT CANCER
COUNTDOWN IS ON FOR THE 5TH ANNUAL EVENT IN ELKHART LAKE, WI
Elkhart Lake, WI – It’s July, and that means three
things for cyclists…the days are long and warm – ideal
for biking. The Tour de France is on TV. And the countdown is
on for the return of the Tour de Road America – Bike Ride
to Fight Cancer presented by Delta Dental at Elkhart Lake’s
Road America race track.
Held annually since 2004, the ride unites local cyclists, race
car drivers, race fans, families, and cancer survivors for a fundraising
ride on the 4.0-mile auto racing circuit.
The family-friendly event is Friday, August 8, 2008 at approximately
6:45 P.M., following the day’s auto racing activities. The
ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and all kinds of bikes.
Proceeds of the fundraiser support the cancer survivorship, advocacy,
education, and research programs of the Lance Armstrong Foundation,
the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang Camp, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer
Clinic. Organizers expect three- to four-hundred participants
to take to the track next month.
For many participants, “the tour” is a highlight of
their cycling season. For auto racing fans, it’s a unique
chance to ride along side their racing heroes from the American
Le Mans, Atlantics Championship, Speed World Challenge, and other
racing series. Avid cyclists enjoy the challenge of the hills
and 14-turns of the circuit. Families like the wide smooth pavement
and traffic-free, controlled environment. And cancer survivors
and advocates can demonstrate their commitment to LIVE STRONG,
the motto of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
For Robb Holland, driver of the DRC Motorsports Lexus IS-GTF in
the Speed World Challenge series, the Tour de Road America combines
his passion for cycling with his current profession as a race
car driver. Holland, who was previously a pro cyclist, said “Surprisingly,
there are many similarities between motorsports and cycling. I
think that is why I was able to be on the pace relatively quickly
once I made to move to cars. It also gives you a level of fitness
that very few other drivers can match.”
“I’m pretty amped to ride the track,” said Holland.
“But at the end of the day, the best thing about the ride
is the cause it supports. It really is amazing to talk to some
of the cancer survivors and hear their stories and how much events
like this mean to them. I am glad that I can be a small part in
something that means so much.”

Tour de Road America Raises almost $29,000 for Cancer Survivorship,
Sets Records for Attendance and Fundraising
(September 10, 2007 – Elkhart Lake, WI) Organizers of the
Tour de Road America benefiting Lance Armstrong Foundation today
announced that the 2007 event, which took place on the Road America
race track in Elkhart Lake on August 10, 2007, was the most successful
in its four-year history.
The event’s all-volunteer staff registered 384 riders for
the Friday evening bike ride on the track. The silent auction
on Saturday and Sunday featured over one hundred items from local
businesses and auto racing teams. As of September 3, $28,463 in
donations had been collected and forwarded to the Lance Armstrong
Foundation (LAF) to benefit its cancer survivorship programs.
Organizers expect that number to rise further when companies match
the contributions made by their employees.
“It was truly a team effort,” said Brett Edgerle,
Co-Director of the event. “Everyone came together to make
the event a success -- cyclists, corporate sponsors and contributors,
the Road America track staff, race teams and drivers, the race
series, fans, and volunteers…everyone!”
“The funds raised are very important for the Lance Armstrong
Foundation’s cancer education, research, survivorship, and
advocacy programs,” added George Siegle, Co-Director and
one of the founders of the event. “But we also measure success
by the number of smiling faces of participants, and by the many
sponsors and contributors who already have committed to increasing
their participation next year.”
Dates for the 2008 event will be posted on the event web site
at www.pelotonride.org, when available.

TOUR DE ROAD AMERICA, A BIKE RIDE TO FIGHT CANCER, ROLLS ONTO
THE ROAD AMERICA RACE TRACK IN ELKHART LAKE THIS COMING WEEKEND
Race Car Drivers, Fans, and Cyclists To “Bike the Track”
in a Fun, Family-Oriented Fundraiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation
and Cancer Survivorship
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (AUGUST 14, 2006) — The Tour de Road
America benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) returns
for the third time to Elkhart Lake’s Road America racing
circuit this coming weekend.
The Tour de Road America features race drivers from the American
Le Mans, IMSA GT3, Speed World Challenge, Star Mazda and other
auto racing series. Cyclists, fans, families, drivers and cancer
survivors will have the unique opportunity to ride their bicycles
on the beautiful 4-mile Road America circuit while helping to
raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s cancer
survivorship programs. Volunteers for the Lance Armstrong Foundation
organized the ride, and hope to attract 400 cyclists and raise
$20,000.
The ride takes place in conjunction with the Generac 500 at Road
America weekend of auto racing. The Tour de Road America is scheduled
for August 19th. Opening ceremonies begin at about 6:15 p.m. following
Saturday’s auto racing activities.
Cyclists can ride at their own pace, from a single lap of the
circuit, to 10 or more laps or as darkness allows. Families and
kids will enjoy the being able to ride without cars, stop lights,
or traffic.
For the professional race car drivers, the Tour de Road America
can take on a competitive note. “Last year was a lot of
fun for the drivers. We're all very competitive and it almost
turned into a race!” said Corvette Racing's Oliver Gavin.
“I wasn't sure how many laps I could complete. When you're
driving at Road America, it seems like a relatively flat circuit,
but when you're pedaling you realize just how many hills there
are!”
“Bicycling for the Lance Armstrong Foundation was a fantastic
experience,” Gavin added. “Lance is a fantastic athlete
and a great ambassador, and the event benefits a very worthy cause.”
There is still time to register for the ride at www.pelotonride.org.
Pre-registered participants will receive a T-shirt, water bottle,
Cytomax Sport Energy Drink and other goodies. On-site rider registration
is available on August 18-19 at the track.
A pre- and post-ride reception will be held at the track on Saturday,
along with various other cancer outreach and fundraising activities
Friday through Sunday. The weekend-long silent auction fundraiser
culminates on Sunday with bidding for a Generac generator valued
at $2,500, and a set of Kumho tires valued at up to $1,600.

RACE CAR DRIVERS, TEAMS, RACE FANS AND CYCLISTS TO TAKE
TO THEIR BIKES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (July 14, 2006) — While professional

unique mix of stateside cyclists are preparing to take on the
hills and twists of the Road America road racing circuit in east-central
Wisconsin on August 19, 2006.
The Tour de Road America allows auto racing fans, families, cyclists,
cancer survivors, race car drivers, and their teams to pedal Road
America’s beautiful 4.048-mile permanent road circuit in
support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and its cancer survivorship
programs.
Participants in the fundraiser can sign up to ride distances
of up to 40 miles on the track by making a donation to the Lance

Racing Porche 911 GT3 in the American Le Mans Series, is excited
to be participating again in 2006, “I think the Lance Armstrong
Foundation is a great charity to support. Last year was fun to
be out there with a lot of my peers. Having the fans and the drivers
and everyone out there on the race track at the same time is a
cool idea. This has to be one of the best ways to support a great
cause that I have ever been a part of.”
George Bruggenthies, president of Road America, is enthusiastic
about the event, “We’re proud to host and support
the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Tour de Road America, which
is now in its third year here. The fans and the racing teams really
enjoy biking the track, with the added bonus that it’s all
for a great cause. And families enjoy riding with their kids on
the track because there are no cars or traffic to worry about.”

TOUR DE ROAD AMERICA RAISES ALMOST $20,000
FOR LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION
Elkhart Lake, Wis. - After all the engines shut off on Aug. 20,
and the drivers took off their helmets, suits and gloves, they
strapped on another kind of helmet and took to the Road America
circuit without their big horsepower and two tires.
More than 400 bicyclists, fans and world-class ALMS drivers pedaled
together around the beautiful 4.048-mile road course in the rolling
hills of Elkhart Lake, Wis. In its second year, the Tour de Road
America benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) made headlines
as riders raised almost $20,000.
Drivers from ALMS, TransAm, Toyota Atlantic, IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge
presented by Michelin and the Star Mazda series all joined the
ride to help raise an astonishing amount of money for the LAF.
During such a busy race weekend, like the Generac 500 at Road
America, the teams, drivers and race fans turned out in droves
and took the time donate to the LAF, bid on silent auction items
and participate in the Tour de Road America ride.
Several teams and crewmembers from around the paddock took it
upon themselves to help "pass the hat" to raise money
for the LAF. This came in addition to the thousands of individual
donations received over the weeks leading up to and during the
weekend of the Generac 500.
"It was one of the most heartwarming and exciting weekends
I've ever been a part of," said event co-organizer Dave Racine.
"I owe a ‘thank you' that's difficult to put into words
to the people who helped so graciously and donated their time
and money to help the LAF."
While the teams, crew, sponsors and fans all joined in on the
fundraising, nothing compared to the sea of yellow-clad bicyclists
that circle the Road America race track.
JJ Lehto was one of many ALMS drivers to ride in an effort to
raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation in the Tour de
Road America.
"It is truly a sight to see, and putting this many people
together on the Road America track to help raise money to fight
cancer is inspiring," said George Siegle, Event Director.
"Road America and the American Le Mans Series were an integral
part of making this event the success it was."
The Tour de Road America's popularity is growing, witnessed by
an increase in participants, sponsor involvement and overall donations
given. The Tour de Road America benefiting Lance Armstrong Foundation

ABOUT THE LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION
Peloton Project members, including people touched by cancer, cyclists
and volunteers, raise awareness and funds in their communities
to help the LAF support people affected by cancer through advocacy,
education, public health and research programs. In 2004, Peloton
Project members raised more than $5.6 million for the LAF.
Lance Armstrong’s story inspires many of the 10 million
Americans living with cancer. When Armstrong was diagnosed with
testicular cancer at age 25, he was given less than a 40 percent
chance to live. Despite the great uncertainty about his future,
he declared himself a cancer survivor from the moment of his diagnosis.
He educated himself about his disease, beat cancer and went on
to win six consecutive Tour de France victories.
Through his experience, Armstrong realized that people need real
support to deal with the physical, emotional and practical issues
they face in the battle with cancer. He formed the Lance Armstrong
Foundation to help people with cancer and their loved ones get
the practical information and tools they need to live strong.
To share your story on the practical steps taken, the lessons
learned and the sources of inspiration found in the battle against
cancer, please visit www.livestrong.org.

Race Car Drivers,
Fans and Cyclists Raise over $18,000 for the
Lance Armstrong Foundation and Cancer Survivors
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (September 3, 2004) - The organizers of the
Tour de Road America, a Peloton Project benefiting the Lance Armstrong
Foundation, today announced the final results of their fundraising
campaign. As of August 27, $18,299 has been contributed to the
Lance Armstrong Foundation. Of that, $1,000 was from the sale
of the popular yellow Live Strong wristbands.
The Tour de Road America took place on August 7 during weekend
activities at the Grand Prix of Road America, featuring the Bridgestone
Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. Approximately
400 bicyclists, fans, and world class drivers cycled the historic
four-mile race track starting on Saturday evening, capping off
a weekend of activities to raise funds and awareness for the LAF.
Although the organizers had hoped to reach $25,000, they are
happy with the results. “When you consider that on July
4, the Tour de Road America was still in the idea stage, we are
very pleased that cyclists and the Champ Car community were able
to raise nearly twenty thousand dollars in just a few weeks,”
said Dave Racine, co-organizer.
A significant part of the funds raised came from a contribution
by Champ Car presenting sponsor Bridgestone Motorsport. “We’re
honored that Bridgestone Motorsport made this donation to the
Lance Armstrong Foundation,” said co-organizer George Siegle,
“and we thank them on behalf of the LAF and cancer survivors.”
“It was wonderful too see how everyone came together to
help raise money to fight cancer,” said Racine. “We’d
especially like to recognize the assistance of our hosts, sponsors,
and volunteers. Without them, this great result would not have
been possible.” Road America and the Champ Car World Series
were instrumental in getting the project from idea to reality.
Additional sponsorship and contributions came from Trek Bicycles,
CytoSport, Ford Cosworth, Bella’s Custom Design, Siebken’s
Resort, Bay Area Message Network, Tria Design and Marketing, Radia
Creative, and many of the Champ Car and Trans-Am Series teams.
Members of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater Cycling
Team provided help with registration, bike fitting, and ride control.
The RuSPORT racing team also showed its support for the Lance
Armstrong Foundation by running the #10 Champ Car, driven by A.J.
Allmendinger, in all yellow with LAF and “Live Strong”
logos during the Grand Prix of Road America.
Although additional donations and corporate matching gifts are
still coming in, Tour de Road America organizers are already looking
forward to 2005. “We’ve had so much interest and enthusiasm
for the event this year, we think it might be possible to have
1,000 riders next year,” said Siegle. Participating Champ
Car drivers were in agreement. Said Mario Dominquez, "The
Tour de Road America event…was great, I had a blast. The
fans were amazing and it was so much fun to get to do something
like this with them. I hope this becomes a tradition." A.J.
Allmendinger added, “It was incredible to be part of this
Lance Armstrong Foundation bike ride. It was really pretty cool
to see everyone come out, and what better place to do the bike
ride than around a racetrack like Road America.”
Tour de Road America has set up an e-mail system where interested
people can sign up to receive news and information about next
year’s ride. A gallery of photos is also posted on the web
site. For more information, visit www.pelotonride.org.

a banner congratulating Lance on his triumph over cancer and his
historic 6th victory in the Tour de France.

with the fans and raise awareness and funds for a great cause.”
"I am excited about taking part in this magnificent event.
In Mexico I am on a council for UNICEF where we look for a better
world for children. So I think that having someone as big and
as important as Lance Armstrong doing things to help people with
cancer is really great because it helps to reach more people.
Lance is also such a great example of how to live life and he
motivates those who are having a tough time to keep fighting no
matter what. I will be proud to share a small part of his effort
and I hope my participation can help to go a little bit further
in this amazing battle for a better future for everybody."
The Champ Car World Series is the world’s most diverse
and challenging open-wheel racing series. Drivers need to keep
in top physical form and many do so by taking part in cycling
their way to better shape. For many cyclists this will be their
only chance to ever pedal around the gorgeous Road America race
